Buick Envision missing its tire and loading label

Some 2024 Buick Envisions left the factory without the label that lists the correct tire size, the air pressure the tires need, and how much weight the vehicle can safely carry. Without that label, you have no easy way to look up those numbers, so you might drive on under-inflated tires or load the car past its limit. Either one makes a tire problem or a crash more likely. A dealer simply installs the missing label.

Buick and Chevrolet dashboard display may go blank

A software glitch in the module that runs the digital dashboard can make the screen behind the steering wheel go blank. It may happen when you start the vehicle or while you are driving. When the screen is blank, you cannot see how fast you are going and you will not see warning lights telling you about problems like low oil pressure or a brake issue. The fix is a free software update, done either at a dealer or sent to the vehicle over the air.

Buick, Cadillac, Chevy, GMC: Daytime Running Lights Stay On

On these Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles, the daytime running lights can stay lit when you turn the headlights on. They are supposed to switch off at that point. Because they stay bright, they can create glare for other drivers and make it harder for people to see. This does not meet the federal rules for vehicle lamps. A dealer can update the software that controls the lights, or the fix can be sent to the vehicle wirelessly.

Buick Regal may lose backup power brake assist

Your brakes use a power assist system that makes the pedal easy to press. If that assist system fails, a software error in the brake control computer can keep the backup assist from kicking in. Without it, the pedal gets much harder to push and the car takes a longer distance to stop. Because of this, the vehicles do not meet the federal brake safety standard. Dealers will update the brake module software at no charge.

Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave roof airbags may not deploy

The wiring plug that connects to the airbags built into the roof above the side windows may have the wrong type of metal connectors inside. Because the parts don't match properly, the connection may not work, and the side curtain airbags on the left or right may not inflate during a crash. Owners of certain 2020-2022 Chevrolet Traverse and 2021-2022 Buick Enclave models are affected. A dealer will replace the connector.

Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave airbags may not deploy properly

While these SUVs were in for service at a dealer, some of them had the wrong software loaded into the system that controls the front airbags. That software decides how the airbags fire in a front-end crash. With the wrong version in place, the front airbags may not go off the way they are supposed to in a crash. There is no warning light or symptom; a dealer loads the correct software.

Buick Encore GX and Chevrolet Trailblazer Jack Can Break

These vehicles came with an emergency jack, the small tool you use to lift the vehicle when you change a flat tire. If the jack is not placed exactly where the owner's manual says it should go, it can crack and break while the vehicle is raised on it. The vehicle can then drop, which could injure anyone underneath or beside it. GM is replacing the jack for free, but parts were not ready when the first letters went out.

GM SUVs and cars: airbag warning light may not work

A software problem in your vehicle's communication module means the airbag warning light on the dash can turn on and off when it shouldn't. Because the light behaves unpredictably, it may fail to tell you when something is genuinely wrong with the airbag system. The notice does not say the airbags themselves are faulty — the problem is with the warning you would get if a fault developed. A free software update fixes it, done at the dealer or sent to the car over the air.

GM SUVs and trucks may have defective Continental tires

Some Continental tires on these vehicles were heated too long when they were made. A tire like that can crack in the sidewall and lose air all at once, or the tread can start peeling away from the tire. Either one can make the vehicle hard to control while you are driving. The dealer will look at your tires and replace any bad ones for free.

GM trucks and SUVs may have faulty Continental tires

These Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles may have left the factory with Continental tires that were heated too long while being made. A tire made this way can crack in the sidewall and lose air suddenly, or the tread can start peeling away and come partly or completely off the tire. Either problem can happen while you are driving. Dealers will inspect your tires and replace any that match the specific tire codes Continental identified.

Chevy, Buick, GMC, Cadillac: Transmission Fluid Leak Risk

Inside the automatic transmission on these Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles is a part tied to the automatic stop/start system. The end cap on that part may be missing bolts. If bolts are missing, transmission fluid can leak out. A bad leak can leave the vehicle unable to move under its own power, which is dangerous if it happens in traffic. Leaking transmission fluid can also catch fire if it lands on something hot. A dealer will inspect the part and replace it if bolts are missing.

Buick, Cadillac, Chevy, GMC SUVs: fuel pump can stall engine

The fuel pump inside the gas tank pushes fuel to the engine. On these vehicles, a small piece of leftover plastic from the factory can be stuck in the pump's tiny nozzle. That bit can block the opening so the engine does not get enough fuel. If that happens, the engine can quit while you are driving, with no warning first. Dealers replace the whole fuel pump unit.

GM Brake Assist Can Fail on Corvette, Trailblazer, Cadillacs

These vehicles use an electric system that helps boost your braking, so the pedal feels easy to press. Dirt or moisture on a sensor connection can cut off the signal between the sensor and that booster. If that happens, the power assist goes away and the brake pedal gets very hard to push. The car will still stop, but you have to push much harder and it takes longer. GM dealers replace the brake booster module at no cost.

Buick Encore GX and Chevrolet Trailblazer missing front seat bolts

The bolts that hold the back of a front seat down to the floor may have been left out at the factory, on one or both front seats. A seat that is not fully bolted down can shift or move during a crash, so whoever is sitting in it is more likely to be hurt. A dealer will check the attachments on both front seats and install any bolts that are missing.

GM Trucks and SUVs May Have Weak Roof Airbags

The roof-rail airbags run along the edge of the ceiling above the side windows and are meant to protect your head in a side crash or rollover. On these vehicles, a piece that directs gas into the airbag may not have been crimped onto the inflator tightly enough and can come off when the airbag deploys. If that happens, the airbag may not protect you as well in a crash. Dealers replace the affected airbag units at no cost.

Buick Regal Front Seat Frames May Have Bad Welds

The metal frame inside the front seats has a bar across the bottom that is welded in place. On some of these Regals, that weld was not done correctly. A badly welded seat frame may not hold up in a crash, so the seat might not protect the person sitting in it the way it should. The dealer will inspect the welds on both front seats and replace the seat back frame if the weld is bad.

Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse may have cracked frame

The frame rail is a main steel beam that runs through the engine compartment and helps hold the vehicle together. On these SUVs, the rail on the passenger side may have left the factory with a crack in it. A cracked rail is weaker than it should be, so in a crash it may not crumple and absorb force the way it was designed to, and people inside could be hurt more badly. GM will replace the entire vehicle if the crack is found.

Buick Encore, Chevrolet Spark, Traverse, Trax airbags may not deploy

The computer that decides when to fire the airbags was left in a factory setting used during manufacturing. In that setting, it will not set off the airbags, so they may not inflate in a crash. Affected cars are certain 2019 Buick Encore, Chevrolet Spark, Chevrolet Traverse and Chevrolet Trax models. The fix is quick: a dealer reprograms the computer to the correct setting at no charge.

GM cars, SUVs may have weak rear brakes

The pistons inside the rear brake calipers, the parts that squeeze the brake pads against the wheels, were not coated properly. That can let gas pockets form in the brake system at the rear wheels. Gas squashes when you press the pedal instead of pushing firmly on the pads, so the rear brakes do less of the work and the vehicle can take longer to stop than you expect. The dealer bleeds the brake system to clear the gas out.

Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Cadillac fuel pump leak fire risk

The high pressure fuel pump on these vehicles can come loose from the bracket that holds it in place. Once loose, the pump can damage the high pressure fuel line next to it. A damaged line can leak gasoline into the engine compartment, where hot parts can set it on fire. A dealer will replace both the fuel pump and the fuel pipe at no charge to you.

Buick Regal rear seat belts may be misrouted

On some 2018 Regals, the rear seat belts for the two outer back seats may have been threaded the wrong way around a bracket in the seat when the car was built. A belt routed incorrectly may not hold a passenger properly in a crash. Nothing looks or feels wrong during normal driving, so you cannot count on noticing it yourself. A dealer will inspect both rear outboard seat belts and correct the routing if needed, at no cost.
