Reporting an error

Please include the page address and, for a recall page, the NHTSA campaign number (for example 24V-744). Tell us which sentence looks wrong and, if you can, what the official notice says instead. Confirmed corrections go live with the next daily update.

Questions about your own vehicle

We cannot tell you whether a specific car has been repaired, book a repair or contact a dealer for you. For that, use the official NHTSA VIN lookup or the manufacturer's customer service line, which is listed on each of our make and recall pages. If your recall notice says not to drive the vehicle, call the manufacturer first: they usually arrange towing or a loaner. Our recall help page explains the whole process.

Reporting a safety problem with your car

Safety complaints should go to NHTSA, not to us: nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem or 1-888-327-4236. Complaints filed there are what eventually trigger investigations and recalls.
