Kia Optima and Rio trunk may not open from inside low

Reported 2023-08-24 · Campaign 23V594000 · Model years: 2018

The base of the trunk latch can crack. If it does, the release handle inside the trunk will not open the lid, so anyone shut in the trunk cannot get out on their own. This does not change how the car drives or how you open the trunk normally from outside. It matters most if a child climbs into the trunk to play and the lid closes. A dealer replaces the latch base free of charge.

Kia Optima Hybrid Engine Bearings Can Wear Out Early critical

Reported 2021-10-29 · Campaign 21V844000 · Model years: 2018

In some 2017-2018 Kia Optima Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid cars, small bearings inside the engine can wear out sooner than they should. As they wear, the engine can be damaged. A badly damaged engine may quit while you are driving, leaving you without power in traffic, and in some cases it can catch fire. Dealers will look inside the engine and replace it if there is damage, and will also add a software update that listens for engine knocking.
