These Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrids do not have enough shielding around some high-voltage parts — specifically the fuses in the electrical center. Federal rules require that people cannot touch those live parts during normal use, and these cars fall short. Anyone reaching into that area could get a serious electric shock. The dealer will install a cover over the high-voltage fuses, free of charge, which brings the car back in line with the rules.

Component: HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM
Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2019 Fusion Energi Hybrid models. The affected vehicles may not adequately protect against direct and indirect contact of high voltage sources during normal operation. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 305, "Electric-Powered Vehicles: Electrolyte spillage and electrical shock protection."
Safety risk: Potential contact with high voltage sources increases the risk of injury.
Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install a Bus Electrical Center (BEC) cover over the high voltage fuses, free of charge. The recall began April 2, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19C05.
