Oil reaching the rear tire can cause a sudden loss of grip, so while the notice does not say to park the bike, this should be repaired before you ride much more.

What's wrong, in plain English

On these motorcycles, the hoses that carry oil to the oil cooler may not have been attached to the oil pipes correctly at the factory. A loose hose can let engine oil escape while you ride. The leaking oil can drip down in the path of the rear tire, and oil on a tire or on the road makes the bike slide very easily. A rider could lose control and crash.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your motorcycle is part of recall 19V697000.
2. Contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or your BMW motorcycle dealer to schedule the repair.
3. The dealer will replace the oil cooler assembly and its hoses, free of charge.
