Ford Bronco Sport rear subframe bolts loose or missing

NHTSA campaign 21V075000 · Reported 2021-02-16 · Ford Motor Company

high How serious is it? About this label

This can affect handling and raise crash risk, and it can also mean more injury in a rear-end collision, so schedule the free inspection promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

The rear subframe is the metal cradle underneath the back of the vehicle that holds the rear suspension in place. On some of these SUVs, the bolts that fasten that assembly may be loose or missing entirely. If those bolts are not tight, the rear end may not stay where it should, which can change how the vehicle steers and handles. The back of the vehicle may also hold up poorly if someone hits you from behind.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is included. 2. Contact a Ford dealer for the inspection, or call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 21S04). 3. The dealer tightens or replaces the rear suspension bolts at no cost.
