BMW X7 Front Parking Light May Stay Off

NHTSA campaign 22V725000 · Reported 2022-09-29 · BMW of North America, LLC

low How serious is it? About this label

This is a minor problem compared with most recalls, and the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but reduced visibility does add some crash risk at night.

What's wrong, in plain English

On some 2023 BMW X7 models, only one of the two front parking lights may stay lit in certain driving situations. Parking lights help other people see the front of your vehicle, especially at dusk, at night, or in bad weather. With one side dark, another driver may misjudge how wide your vehicle is or may not notice it at all. The fix is a software update for the control unit that runs those lights, done at the dealer.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your X7 is covered.
2. Contact your BMW dealer or BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 to schedule the reprogramming.
3. The software update is free; it is a quick visit, so combine it with your next service if you like.
