Very serious — losing braking while driving can cause a crash, and although the notice does not tell owners to park the car, this repair should not be put off.

What's wrong, in plain English

The brake pedal is joined to the braking system by a rod held in place with a screwed connection. On these Volvo hybrids, that connection may be loose. If it works its way apart, pressing the pedal may not slow the car the way it should, and you could lose your brakes while driving. A dealer simply tightens the connection. If the pedal ever feels loose, soft or different from normal, stop driving and call for help right away.

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Volvo is covered. 2. Call your Volvo dealer, or Volvo at 1-800-458-1552, and ask for recall R10289 as soon as possible. 3. Have the brake pedal connection tightened — the repair is free.

Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2020 S60, V60, S90I, XC60 and XC90 hybrid vehicles. The pushrod screw joint, connecting to the brake pedal to the hydraulic brake unit, may be loose.
Safety risk
A loose brake pedal can result in a loss of braking function, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will tighten the brake pedal pushrod screw joint, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 17, 2024. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo's number for this recall is R10289.
