A sudden loss of drive power on a motorcycle can lead to a crash, so an affected bike should not be ridden until the shaft is replaced — though the single bike involved has already been repaired.

What's wrong, in plain English

The driveshaft on this motorcycle may not have been hardened enough during manufacturing. The joint inside it can slip, and when that happens the engine stops sending power to the rear wheel. Losing drive power while you are riding can make the bike hard to control, especially in traffic or at speed. Only one motorcycle is involved, and BMW says it already called that owner and completed the repair in November 2025.

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls; no letters are being mailed because only one motorcycle is affected. 2. If you have any doubt, call BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. 3. If your bike is covered, the dealer replaces the driveshaft free of charge.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2026 R 1300 RT motorcycles. The cardan shaft may not have been sufficiently hardened, causing the universal joint to slip within the shaft and result in a loss of drive power.
Safety risk
A loss of drive power while riding increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the cardan shaft, free of charge. Owner notification letters will not be mailed because BMW called the one owner on October 30, 2025 and remedied the motorcycle on 11/21/25. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
