Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer gear display may vanish

NHTSA campaign 26V413000 · Reported 2026-06-30 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

medium How serious is it? About this label

A missing gear selection indicator may lead to unintended vehicle movement or a vehicle rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Certain Jeep Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L, Wagoneer and Wagoneer L vehicles have a software error that can stop the gear display from showing. That is the readout that tells you whether the vehicle is in park, reverse, neutral or drive. Without it, you cannot confirm the vehicle is actually in park before you step out, and it may move when you do not expect it or roll away on its own. Dealers reprogram the shifter software for free.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls under recall 26V413000 (Chrysler's number 30D).
2. Contact your Jeep dealer to schedule the free shifter module software update, or call Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403.
3. Until it's fixed, set the parking brake every time you park and make sure the vehicle is fully stopped and in park before getting out.
