Ford Explorer rear axle bolt can break, causing rollaway high

Reported 2022-04-14 · Campaign 22V255000 · Model years: 2020, 2021

A bolt that holds the rear axle in place can crack and break. If it does, the driveshaft, the spinning bar that sends power to the rear wheels, can come apart. When that happens, putting the shifter in Park may no longer hold the vehicle still, so it can roll away on its own if the parking brake is not set. Depending on which Explorer you have, the dealer either replaces a bushing and axle cover or reprograms the electronic parking brake.

Ford Explorer Police and Lincoln Aviator have contaminated washer fluid medium

Reported 2021-01-15 · Campaign 21V014000 · Model years: 2020

Ford is recalling certain 2020 Explorer Police Interceptor Utility and 2020 Lincoln Aviator vehicles. They left the factory with brake fluid mixed into the windshield washer fluid. That mixture does not clean glass the way washer fluid should, so spraying it can leave the windshield smeared and hard to see through. It can also damage paint and parts on the outside of the vehicle. Dealers will flush the system and replace several washer parts and the wiper blades.
