Nissan 370Z driver-side curtain airbag installed incorrectly

NHTSA campaign 18V153000 · Reported 2018-03-06 · Nissan North America, Inc.

medium How serious is it? About this label

The problem only shows up in a crash, where the airbag may not protect the driver as intended; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so get it inspected at your next opportunity.

What's wrong, in plain English

The curtain airbag on the driver's side — the one that drops down from above the window in a side crash — may have been put in wrong at the factory. Because of that, it might not open the way it should if you are hit from the side. Nissan says these cars do not meet the federal rules for side-impact protection and for keeping people from being thrown out of the vehicle. A dealer will inspect the airbag and correct the installation.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your car is affected. 2. Call your Nissan dealer or Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 to book the inspection. 3. The inspection and any correction are free of charge.
