What's wrong, in plain English

BMW is recalling certain 2017-2018 G310R and 2018 G310GS motorcycles. Using and leaning on the side stand over and over can damage the stand itself and the part of the frame it attaches to. If that happens, the motorcycle can tip over on its own while it is parked and standing still, which can injure you or someone standing nearby. Dealers will inspect the frame and install a reinforcement plate and a new side stand, or replace the frame.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see whether your motorcycle is included.
2. Contact a BMW motorcycle dealer or BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 to book the inspection.
3. Have the reinforcement plate and new side stand installed, or the frame replaced if needed, free of charge.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2017-2018 BMW G310R and 2018 BMW G310GS motorcycles. Over time, repeated use and loading of the side stand could cause damage to the side stand and the motorcycle's frame.
Safety risk
Damage to the side stand and/or frame may result in the motorcycle unexpectedly falling over while it is stationary, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the frame, installing a reinforcement plate and new side stand, or the frame will be replaced if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on September 21, 2018. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
