Hyundai Veloster driver's door may open in crash

NHTSA campaign 19V311000 · Reported 2019-04-17 · Hyundai Motor America

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious if you are in a side-impact crash — the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so the car can be driven normally until it is fixed.

What's wrong, in plain English

On some 2019 Hyundai Veloster cars, the latch that holds the driver's door shut, along with its locking cable, can be damaged in a side-impact crash. If that happens, the driver's door can pop open during the crash instead of staying shut. A door that opens in a crash can let someone be thrown out of the car or leave them less protected. A dealer will replace the driver's door latch and the lower channel part at no charge.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Veloster is covered. 2. Contact your Hyundai dealer or Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 (recall 183) to schedule the work. 3. Have the door latch assembly replaced — it is free.
