Ford Super Duty diesel trucks can stall from transmission part

NHTSA campaign 20V365000 · Reported 2020-06-23 · Ford Motor Company

high How serious is it? About this label

An engine that quits or brakes that suddenly need much more effort raises the risk of a crash, and the notice does not tell owners to park the truck.

What's wrong, in plain English

A metal plate inside the transmission's torque converter was not heat-treated properly, which makes it brittle. It can crack and break apart. If that happens, the engine may shut off while you are driving, or the brake pedal may suddenly take much more force to push down to stop the truck. Either one can happen without warning and makes the truck much harder to control. The dealer will replace the whole transmission at no cost to you.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your truck is affected. 2. Contact your Ford dealer or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 20S33) to book the repair. 3. Have the transmission replaced — parts and labor are free.
