Ford F-350 driveshaft can break and lose power

NHTSA campaign 26V119000 · Reported 2026-03-03 · Ford Motor Company

critical How serious is it? About this label

Serious — the truck can lose drive power suddenly and without warning, which is especially dangerous in traffic or while towing, so get it inspected as soon as you can.

What's wrong, in plain English

The driveshaft is the spinning steel tube that carries power from the engine and transmission back to the rear wheels. On these trucks, a welded joint in that shaft may not have been made properly and can fail. If it does, the rear driveshaft can come apart and the truck suddenly stops pulling, even though the engine is still running. Dealers will check the serial number stamped on your driveshaft and install a new one if yours is one of the bad ones.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see whether your F-250 or F-350 is included.
2. Call a Ford dealer to schedule the driveshaft inspection, or reach Ford at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 26S13).
3. If the driveshaft serial number is affected, the dealer replaces it at no charge.
