Ford Explorer roof rail covers can come off
medium How serious is it? About this label
A detached roof rail cover can create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.
What's wrong, in plain English
The long covers that run along the edges of the roof are held on by retention pins. Those pins can work loose, and a cover can detach from the vehicle. If one comes off while you are driving, it becomes an obstacle in the road for you and for drivers behind you. Dealers will install push-pins and replace any damaged rail clips or roof rail covers as needed, at no charge.
