What's wrong, in plain English

BMW found that one 2019 X5 xDrive 40i was built with an instrument panel — the dashboard structure in front of the passenger seat — that was not made correctly. Because of that flaw, the front passenger airbag might not open the way it is supposed to in a crash, so someone in that seat could be injured more badly. A dealer will replace the entire instrument panel free of charge. Only this one vehicle is affected.

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to check whether your X5 is the vehicle covered by recall 21V520000.
2. If it is, contact your BMW dealer, or BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417, to arrange the instrument panel replacement.
3. Have the panel replaced — parts and labor are free.
