Ford F-350 rear axle may bend, driveshaft can separate

NHTSA campaign 21V536000 · Reported 2021-07-15 · Ford Motor Company

high How serious is it? About this label

This is serious because you could lose drive power or have the truck move on its own, but the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so get it inspected as soon as you can and always set the parking brake.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2020-2021 Ford F-350 Super Duty pickups with the 6.7L diesel engine and a Dana 275 rear axle, the rear axle housing may not be strong enough to carry the truck's load. It can bend out of shape. If that happens, the driveshaft, the spinning bar that sends power to the rear wheels, can come apart. The truck can lose power while driving, or roll on its own if parked without the parking brake set.

2. Call your Ford dealer, or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, and book an inspection of the rear axle housing.
3. The dealer will repair or replace the housing if needed at no cost to you.
