Ford Maverick fuel tank may be drilled and leak

NHTSA campaign 21V976000 · Reported 2021-12-16 · Ford Motor Company

critical How serious is it? About this label

A leaking fuel tank can start a fire, so treat this as urgent and get the truck inspected right away; if you smell gasoline, stop driving it and call the dealer.

What's wrong, in plain English

When the sprayed-in bed liner was installed on some 2022 Ford Mavericks, drill holes may have damaged the gas tank underneath. A damaged tank can leak fuel, and leaking gasoline raises the risk of a fire. Ford says these trucks do not meet the federal rule for fuel system safety. A dealer will inspect your tank and replace it if needed, at no charge. Ford mailed an early notice in January 2022 and the full repair letter in March.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is on the list.
2. Call your Ford dealer, or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, and give them recall number 21C35.
3. Have the dealer inspect and, if needed, replace the fuel tank — free of charge.
