What's wrong, in plain English

The tube you pour gas down to fill the tank may come loose from the vehicle in a crash. If it does, fuel can leak out, and leaking fuel raises the chance of a fire. The vehicle does not meet the federal safety rule for fuel systems because of this. Ford's fix is to add a small locking clip that keeps the fuel vapor line attached. Dealers install it free of charge in one visit.

Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022 Explorer and Lincoln Aviator vehicles. The fuel filler tube may detach during a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 301, "Fuel System Integrity."
Safety risk: A detached fuel filler tube can result in a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire.
Remedy: Dealers will install a fuel vapor line redundant locking clip, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 4, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22C02.
