Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee can lose engine power

NHTSA campaign 22V284000 · Reported 2022-04-28 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious — losing power without warning raises the risk of a crash, and although the notice does not tell owners to park the vehicle, you should get it repaired promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

These SUVs have a valve that routes some exhaust back into the engine to cut pollution. On these vehicles the valve can stick open. When that happens the engine can suddenly stop making power, so the vehicle slows or quits pulling with no warning, which is dangerous if you are merging, passing, or climbing a hill. There is no way for you to see it coming. The dealer replaces the whole valve assembly at no cost to you.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your vehicle is covered.
2. Schedule the free valve replacement at a Dodge or Jeep dealer, referring to recall Z31.
3. Call FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-1403 if you did not get a letter or need help.
