Honda Gold Wing software error can stall engine
medium How serious is it? About this label
Moderately serious, since the stall can happen while riding; Honda does not tell riders to stop using the motorcycle, but the software update should be done soon.
What's wrong, in plain English
Certain 2020-2022 Honda GL1800 Gold Wing motorcycles with manual transmissions have an error in the software that runs the engine computer. The spark timing is off, which can make the engine lose power and can cause it to stall. A motorcycle that stalls without warning, especially in traffic or mid-turn, puts the rider at risk of a crash. Your Honda dealer will reload the engine computer with corrected software at no cost.
What you should do
2. Call your Honda dealer, or American Honda customer service at 1-866-784-1870, to book the engine computer software update.
3. Have the update installed — it is free of charge.
