Ford Explorer and Ranger fuel line may leak gasoline

NHTSA campaign 22V685000 · Reported 2022-09-14 · Ford Motor Company

critical How serious is it? About this label

This is the most serious kind of defect on this list — a fuel leak means a fire risk — and while the notice does not order owners to park the vehicle, you should get it inspected right away.

What's wrong, in plain English

This covers vehicles with the 2.3-liter engine. The connection on one of the fuel lines may not have been tightened enough when the vehicle was built. A loose connection can let gasoline escape under the hood, and gasoline near a hot engine can start a fire. Ford's dealers will inspect the fuel line and install a new fuel line assembly if it is needed. The inspection and any parts and labor are free to the owner.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Explorer or Ranger is covered by recall 22V685000.
2. Call your Ford dealer or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 22S60) and ask for the fuel line inspection as soon as possible — say it is a fire-risk recall.
3. If you smell gasoline or see fuel under the hood or under the vehicle, stop driving it and have it towed to the dealer.
