Ford F53 RV chassis rear sway bar brackets can break

NHTSA campaign 22V731000 · Reported 2022-09-30 · Ford Motor Company

high How serious is it? About this label

Brackets that separate from the vehicle can create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

These are the bare chassis that motorhomes are built on. The brackets holding the rear sway bar — the part that keeps the vehicle steady in turns — can break and fall off while you're driving. A bracket lying in the road is a hazard for you and for anyone behind you. A dealer will check how tight the bolts are on both rear brackets and replace the bolts and nuts if they need it.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is affected. 2. Call a Ford dealer and reference recall 22S62, or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. 3. Have both rear brackets inspected and the bolts replaced as needed, free of charge.
