Ford Bronco Sport anti-lock brake module can leak

NHTSA campaign 23V021000 · Reported 2023-01-23 · Ford Motor Company

high How serious is it? About this label

A brake pedal that suddenly travels farther than normal, or a vehicle that creeps during Auto Hold, can lead to a crash, so this is serious; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving before the free repair.

What's wrong, in plain English

The anti-lock brake unit on some 2023 Bronco Sports may have valves inside that were damaged when they were built, and the unit can leak internally. If that happens, the brake pedal may sink farther toward the floor than you expect, which is unsettling when you need to stop quickly. The vehicle may also move unexpectedly when Auto Hold is holding it in place. Ford dealers will replace the whole anti-lock brake unit at no cost.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Bronco Sport is covered.
2. Contact your Ford dealer about recall 23S01, or call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.
3. Have the ABS module replaced — the repair is free.
