Ford Maverick will not warn you of dead turn signal

NHTSA campaign 23V848000 · Reported 2023-12-15 · Ford Motor Company

low How serious is it? About this label

Lower risk overall, but other drivers may not know you are turning; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Normally, when a rear turn signal bulb stops working, your blinker starts flashing much faster to tell you something is wrong. On these Mavericks the truck does not speed up the flash rate, so a rear turn signal can quit working without you ever noticing. Drivers behind you would get no signal that you are about to turn or change lanes. Dealers will update the software in the module that runs the truck's body electronics.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is affected.
2. Call a Ford dealer, or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, and give them recall number 23C41.
3. Get the free software update; walk around the truck now and then to check your lights.

Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles. In the event that one of the rear turn signals stops working, the vehicle will not adjust the turn signal flash rate frequency to warn the driver that a turn signal is not working correctly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Safety risk
A nonfunctioning exterior turn signal will not notify other drivers that the vehicle is turning, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will update the body control module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 16, 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23C41.

Verify your specific vehicle by VIN at nhtsa.gov. Recall repairs are free of charge by law.
