Ford Explorer windshield pillar trim can fall off

NHTSA campaign 24V031000 · Reported 2024-01-19 · Ford Motor Company

low How serious is it? About this label

A detached trim piece can fall off the vehicle, becoming a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The A-pillar trim is the plastic strip that covers the post between the windshield and the front door. The clips holding it may not be fully snapped into place, so the trim can work loose and come off the vehicle. A piece that lands in the road can be a hazard for you and for drivers behind you. Dealers will inspect the trim and replace it if needed, at no cost.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Explorer is included.
2. Contact your Ford dealer or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall 24S02; repairs are being released in phases by model year, so ask whether yours is ready.
3. The dealer inspects and replaces the A-pillar trim as needed, free of charge.
