BMW XM tailgate panel may detach from vehicle
high How serious is it? About this label
A panel coming off at speed can cause a crash for you or the drivers behind you; the notice does not tell owners to park the vehicle, but get it inspected quickly.
What's wrong, in plain English
On certain 2024 BMW XM vehicles, the panel on the tailgate, the rear hatch you lift to reach the cargo area, was not glued on properly during manufacturing. The adhesive may not hold, and the panel can come away from the vehicle. If it drops off while you are driving, it becomes debris in the road that drivers behind you could hit or swerve to avoid. A dealer will inspect the panel and replace it if needed.
