Ford Maverick fuel tank can leak gasoline at seam

NHTSA campaign 24V185000 · Reported 2024-03-08 · Ford Motor Company

critical How serious is it? About this label

Serious — leaking fuel can cause a fire, so if you smell gasoline, see a puddle under the truck, or the check-engine light turns on, stop driving and shut off the engine immediately; otherwise get the repair done as soon as possible.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2024 Ford Mavericks have a fuel tank that was not sealed properly where its two molded halves are joined. That seam can be left open, allowing gasoline to leak out of the tank. Leaking fuel near anything hot or sparking can start a vehicle fire. Ford tells owners to park and shut the engine off right away if they notice a fuel leak or the check-engine light comes on. Dealers replace the tank free.
