Jeep Grand Cherokee backup camera image may not appear

NHTSA campaign 24V289000 · Reported 2024-04-25 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

medium How serious is it? About this label

It is a real safety problem when backing up, but the notice does not tell owners to stop driving — just check your mirrors and look over your shoulder until it is repaired.

What's wrong, in plain English

A cable behind the dashboard screen may not be plugged in all the way. When that happens, the picture from the backup camera does not show up on the screen when you shift into reverse. Without that view you cannot see people, pets, or objects directly behind the vehicle, so it is easier to back into something. The dealer simply pushes the cable connection together properly. Chrysler says every affected vehicle has already been fixed.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see whether your Grand Cherokee is included and already repaired.
2. Contact a Jeep dealer, or FCA US at 1-800-853-1403, and mention recall 40B.
3. Have the camera cable connection secured — the repair is free.
