What's wrong, in plain English

A computer in the truck that runs the lights and other electrical items can switch off one or both rear tail lights by mistake. If your tail lights are dark, drivers behind you have a much harder time seeing your truck at night or in bad weather, and someone could run into the back of it. You probably will not notice from the driver's seat. The fix is a software update for that computer, done at the dealer.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Maverick is included.
2. Call a Ford dealer, or Ford at 1-866-436-7332, and ask for recall 24S24.
3. Have the Body Control Module software updated — the repair is free.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles. The Body Control Module (BCM) may inadvertently deactivate one or both rear tail lights.
Safety risk
Rear tail lights that fail to illuminate can reduce the vehicle's visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will update the BCM software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 10, 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S24.
