What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2020-2024 MINI Hardtop 2 Door Cooper SE electric cars, a problem can develop in the high-voltage battery or the high-voltage system that powers the car. That problem can cause a short circuit, where electricity takes a wrong path, and a short circuit can start a fire. MINI is providing a software update that helps manage the battery. Until the update is done, watch the dashboard for any warning message.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your MINI is covered by campaign 24V612000.
2. If a warning message shows up in the car, park it outside and away from any structure right away.
3. Contact your MINI dealer, or MINI customer service at 1-866-275-6464, to get the software update installed free of charge.

Remedy
Owners are advised that if a warning message is displayed in the vehicle, to park the vehicle outside and away from structures until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will provide a software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 14, 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-866-ASK-MINI (1-866-275-6464).
