Ford Maverick rear tail lights may shut off unexpectedly

NHTSA campaign 25V095000 · Reported 2025-02-14 · Ford Motor Company

medium How serious is it? About this label

The truck still drives and there is no do-not-drive warning, but a dark tail light makes you harder to see from behind, so get the software fixed promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

These trucks were in for a tail light recall before, but the repair did not stick. The body control module, the computer that runs the truck's lights and other basics, can shut off one or both rear tail lights on its own. With a tail light out, drivers behind you have a harder time seeing your truck and knowing where it is. A dealer will install corrected software for free.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls — this recall covers Mavericks repaired incorrectly under the earlier tail light recall.
2. Contact your Ford dealer or Ford customer service at 866-436-7332 (recall 25S07).
3. Have the dealer update the body control module software — there is no charge.
