Ford and Lincoln transmission may cause unexpected vehicle movement

NHTSA campaign 25V164000 · Reported 2025-03-14 · Ford Motor Company

critical How serious is it? About this label

This is serious because the vehicle can move in a direction you did not choose with no warning, though Ford does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Ford is recalling certain 2024-2025 F-150 and Bronco, 2024 Ranger, and 2025 Mustang, Explorer and Aviator vehicles. A part inside the transmission that routes fluid to the gears, called the valve body, may have been machined incorrectly. Reverse gear can fail, or the vehicle can move forward unexpectedly when you have selected reverse or neutral. That kind of surprise movement can cause a crash. Dealers will replace the valve body at no cost.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is part of recall 25S19.
2. Call your Ford or Lincoln dealer, or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, and schedule the repair.
3. Have the transmission main control valve body replaced; it is free.
