An unexpected jump in steering effort can cause a loss of control, so this is a serious defect; the notice does not tell riders to stop riding, but get it repaired right away.

What's wrong, in plain English

BMW found that some 2024-2025 M 1000 XR and M 1000 R motorcycles may have a loose pin inside the steering damper — the part that helps keep the handlebars steady. If that pin shifts, the steering can suddenly take much more effort to turn than the rider expects. On a motorcycle, an unexpected change like that can mean losing control of the bike. Dealers replace the steering damper at no charge.

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm whether your motorcycle is included.
2. Contact your BMW Motorrad dealer to schedule the steering damper replacement under campaign 25V194000.
