This is serious: the vehicle can lose power without warning and the battery can catch fire, so contact your dealer immediately and follow any instructions they give you about charging or parking.

What's wrong, in plain English

These plug-in hybrid Aviators went in for an earlier battery recall, but the repair was not done correctly. One or more cells inside the big high-voltage battery may have a manufacturing flaw that lets it short out inside the pack. If that happens, the battery can fail, the vehicle can lose drive power while you are on the road, and there is also a risk of fire. The dealer will install corrected battery control software at no charge.

Have the battery control software updated — the repair is free.

Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERY
Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Lincoln Aviator vehicles equipped with 3.0L PHEV engines that were repaired incorrectly under recall 23V626. A manufacturing defect in one or more of the high voltage battery cells may result in an internal short circuit and battery failure.
Safety risk: Battery failure can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Battery failure can also increase the risk of a fire.
Remedy: Dealers will update the Battery Energy Control Module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 26, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S58.
