Losing power brake assist while driving is serious and raises the risk of a crash; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but this repair should not be put off.

What's wrong, in plain English

These medium-duty Silverado trucks already had a brake wiring harness put in under an earlier recall. On some of them, that replacement wiring was installed without the protective tape that is supposed to wrap it. Unprotected wires can rub and get damaged over time. If those brake wires are damaged, the power assist that makes your brake pedal easy to press can quit working, so the truck becomes much harder to stop. The dealer takes the harness out, tapes it properly, and puts it back in.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is included — these VINs became searchable November 6, 2025. 2. Contact your Chevrolet dealer, or GM customer assistance at 1-866-467-9700 (recall N252531990), to schedule the work. 3. Have the harness re-done even if you already had the earlier 25V390 repair — it is free.

Component: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST
Summary: General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD vehicles. These vehicles were remedied under NHTSA Recall 25V390 with a brake jumper wire harness that was assembled without protective tape. A wiring harness that is missing protective tape can allow the wires to become damaged.
Safety risk: Damaged brake jumper wires can result in power brake assist failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will remove the installed wire harness, apply protective tape, and reinstall the wire harness, free of charge. Owner notification letters are planned to be mailed December 22, 2025. Owners may contact GM customer assistance number at 1-866-467-9700. GM's number for this recall is N252531990. Vehicles in this recall were previously repaired under 25V390 and will need to have the new remedy completed. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning November 6, 2025.
