In a crash, a child seat in the middle rear position may not be held properly, increasing the risk of injury to the child; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but avoid putting a child seat in that center spot until it is fixed.

What's wrong, in plain English

The center rear seat belt — the one in the middle of the back seat — is supposed to have a locking feature that holds a child car seat tightly in place. On certain 2025-2026 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 4MATIC vehicles, belts were installed without that feature, so a child seat buckled into the middle position can shift around instead of staying locked down. The belt still fastens normally for an adult. Dealers replace the entire center belt assembly.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see whether your GLE is covered.
2. Contact your Mercedes-Benz dealer or MBUSA at 1-800-367-6372 (recall 2026010003) to book the belt replacement.
3. Until the free repair is done, install child seats in an outboard rear seat instead of the center.

Summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2025-2026 GLE 350 4MATIC vehicles. The center rear seat belts may have been installed without the child seat protection function and fail to lock a child restraint properly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," and FMVSS number 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."
Safety risk
In the event of a crash, an insufficiently restrained child has an increased risk of injury.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the center rear seat belt assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 6, 2026. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning December 19, 2025. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2026010003.
