Ford Super Duty F-250 and F-350 rear axle shaft may break

NHTSA campaign 25V866000 · Reported 2025-12-12 · Ford Motor Company

high How serious is it? About this label

This is serious — a break can cause a sudden loss of drive power or let the parked truck roll away, either of which can lead to a crash; the notice does not order owners to park the truck, but get it inspected promptly and set the parking brake every time you park.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2026 Ford Super Duty F-250 and F-350 trucks, the axle shaft on the right rear wheel may not have been heat-treated properly when it was made, which can leave it weak enough to snap. If it breaks while you are driving, the truck can suddenly stop pulling itself forward. It can also roll away after you shift into park, because a broken shaft means park no longer holds that wheel. A dealer checks the part and replaces it if needed.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls (these VINs have been searchable since December 15, 2025).
2. Call your Ford dealer or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 25SD8) and ask for the axle shaft inspection right away.
3. The inspection and any replacement are free; always use the parking brake until the truck has been checked.
