Honda CMX500 and CMX300 motorcycles: handlebar screw can detach high

A small screw that locks the handlebars in position on these Honda motorcycles can loosen and fall out. If it drops down between the frame and the steering stem, it can get in the way of your steering and cause a crash or injury. Honda does not have the final fix ready yet. Warning letters are expected to be mailed around September 21, 2026, and a second letter will follow once parts are available, expected in winter 2026. Dealers will then install a new screw with thread lock.

Honda Rebel motorcycle handlebar screw can fall out high

On these Honda CMX300, CMX500 and CL500 motorcycles, a small screw that locks the handlebar in place can work loose and drop out. If the loose screw falls into the gap between the frame and the steering stem, it can jam your steering and stop you from turning the way you want, which could cause a crash or injury. Dealers replace the screw and add a thread-locking compound so the new one stays tight. The work is free.

Honda Rebel 300 can leak oil onto hot exhaust critical

The cover on the right side of the engine was painted incorrectly at the factory. Because of the bad paint, a small plug pressed into that cover can work its way out and fall off. With the plug gone, engine oil can leak out and land on the hot exhaust pipe or on the rear tire. Oil on a hot pipe can start a fire, and oil on the rear tire can make the bike slide. Dealers replace the cover.
