Serious for a motorcycle — steering that suddenly binds up can put you down, and although Honda has not told riders to stop riding, this is worth fixing right away.
What's wrong, in plain English
On these Honda CMX300, CMX500 and CL500 motorcycles, a small screw that locks the handlebar in place can work loose and drop out. If the loose screw falls into the gap between the frame and the steering stem, it can jam your steering and stop you from turning the way you want, which could cause a crash or injury. Dealers replace the screw and add a thread-locking compound so the new one stays tight. The work is free.

2. Contact your Honda motorcycle dealer, or call Honda at 1-866-784-1870, and refer to recall KUO.
3. Have the lock screw replaced at no cost — owner letters went out June 15, 2026.
