Honda Rebel 300 can leak oil onto hot exhaust

NHTSA campaign 23V261000 · Reported 2023-04-12 · Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)

critical How serious is it? About this label

This one is serious because a leak can cause a fire or make the rear tire lose grip, so get the repair done promptly and stop riding if you see oil leaking from the right side of the engine.

What's wrong, in plain English

The cover on the right side of the engine was painted incorrectly at the factory. Because of the bad paint, a small plug pressed into that cover can work its way out and fall off. With the plug gone, engine oil can leak out and land on the hot exhaust pipe or on the rear tire. Oil on a hot pipe can start a fire, and oil on the rear tire can make the bike slide. Dealers replace the cover.
