The control box for the anti-lock brakes can go bad and cause an electrical short. That short can start a fire in the engine compartment — and it can happen while you are driving or even while the car is sitting parked. Until it is fixed, Hyundai says to park the car outside and away from buildings. A dealer will replace a fuse in the brake system at no cost to you.

Your Santa Fe Sport has side curtain airbags — the ones that drop down from above the side windows to protect your head in a crash. A piece inside them can come loose while the airbag is inflating. If that happens, the airbag may not fill out the way it should, so it protects you less in a crash. The loose piece could also fly into the passenger area and hit someone. Dealers will replace both curtain airbags free.

Some 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport SUVs were built with front coil springs — the big metal springs that hold up the front of the vehicle — that were not made correctly. Under certain loads while driving, a spring can crack and break apart. A broken piece can stab into the tire and flatten it, which can make the driver lose control. All of the affected vehicles were still unsold on dealer lots, and the fix is done before sale.
