A small switch inside the driver's door lock can corrode over time and stop sensing when the door is opened. That switch is what tells the car to set the electronic parking brake, or Auto-Park, automatically when you get out. If the switch fails, the parking brake may never come on, and the vehicle can roll away by itself after you step out. The dealer replaces the driver's door lock free of charge.
A cable inside the door, called a bowden cable, may have been installed incorrectly. When it is wrong, the door cannot be opened using the inside handle. That means someone in the car could be stuck and unable to get out on their own, which Mercedes-Benz says can increase the risk of injury. A dealer will inspect the cable assembly and repair it if needed, at no cost. Owner notification letters were mailed May 1, 2026.
