What's wrong, in plain English

On these Fusion and MKZ cars, the large bolt that holds the steering wheel onto the steering column can work itself loose over time. If it backs out far enough, the steering wheel can come off in your hands while you are driving, leaving you with no way to steer the car. Ford dealers replace the original bolt with a longer one that holds the wheel securely. The repair costs you nothing, and Ford has been notifying owners by mail.

2. Contact your Ford or Lincoln dealer right away, or call Ford at 1-866-436-7332, and give them recall number 18S08.
3. Have the longer steering wheel bolt installed — it is free of charge.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Lincoln MKZ and Ford Fusion vehicles. The steering wheel retaining bolt may loosen allowing the steering wheel to detach while driving.
Safety risk
A steering wheel detachment can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
