Losing a tire tread at speed can make the car unstable, so this is a serious defect; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but get the free tire replacement quickly.

What's wrong, in plain English

Toyota found that on some 2018 Lexus LS sedans with run-flat tires, the way the tires were mounted onto the wheels may have cracked a stiff reinforcing layer inside the tire wall. A cracked layer can let the tread — the rubber that grips the road — peel away from the rest of the tire. If that happens while you are driving, the car can become hard to steer and control.

2. Contact a Lexus dealer and ask about recall KLC to schedule tire replacement.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2018 Lexus LS vehicles equipped with run-flat tires with a sidewall reinforcement layer inside the tire. The tire-on-wheel assembly process may have caused the reinforcement layer to crack, possibly resulting in the tire tread layer separating from the tire.
Safety risk
If the tire tread layer separates from the vehicle, vehicle handling and stability may be affected, increasing the risk of crash.
Remedy
Toyota will notify owners, and Lexus dealers will replace the affected tires, free of charge. The recall began April 26, 2019. Owners may contact Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. The Toyota number for this recall is KLC.
