This is very serious — losing steering control while driving can cause a crash — and although Kia does not tell owners to park the car, you should get it inspected as soon as possible.

What's wrong, in plain English

A part inside the power steering unit on some 2020 Stingers with the 2.0-liter turbo engine may have been made wrong. Because of that flaw, the steering can suddenly become very hard to turn or even lock up while you are driving. If that happens you may not be able to steer where you need to go. Dealers will replace the whole rack-mounted power steering assembly with a new one at no cost to you.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Stinger is covered. 2. Contact your Kia dealer right away, or Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542, and reference recall SC193. 3. Have the dealer replace the power steering assembly — the repair is free.

Summary: Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2020 Stinger vehicles equipped with a 2.0L Turbo-GDI engine. A component within the Rack Mounted Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) Assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, possibly resulting in the steering locking or becoming difficult while driving.
Safety risk: A loss of steering control can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Kia will notify owners, and dealers will replace the MDPS Assembly, free of charge. The recall began August 28, 2020. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC193.
