Ford F-650 and F-750 fluid leak can start engine fire

NHTSA campaign 20V691000 · Reported 2020-11-10 · Ford Motor Company

critical How serious is it? About this label

A fluid leak that can start an engine fire is serious; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving or park outside, but this should be inspected as soon as possible.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2021 F-650 and F-750 trucks with the 7.3-liter gas engine, a line that carries transmission fluid to the cooler can rub against the spinning pulley on the air conditioning compressor. That contact can wear the line and let transmission fluid leak out. If the leaking fluid drips onto hot engine parts, it can catch fire under the hood. Dealers will check that the lines are routed correctly, straighten them out, and replace any that are damaged.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see whether your truck is included. 2. Call your Ford dealer or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 20S66) to schedule the inspection. 3. Have the cooler lines checked, corrected, and replaced if damaged — free of charge.
