Chevrolet Camaro steering wheel emblem may break loose in crash

NHTSA campaign 21V211000 · Reported 2021-03-25 · General Motors, LLC

medium How serious is it? About this label

A real injury risk if you are ever in a crash, but nothing goes wrong during normal driving and the notice does not tell you to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The plastic Camaro badge sits on the cover of the driver's airbag, in the middle of the steering wheel. If the airbag goes off in a crash, that badge can break away from the cover instead of staying put. Pieces of plastic can then be thrown toward the driver at the same moment the airbag is inflating, which can cause injuries on top of those from the crash itself. The dealer replaces the whole driver airbag unit, free.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Camaro is affected.
2. Call a Chevrolet dealer, or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and reference recall N212327220.
3. Schedule replacement of the driver's airbag module — the repair is free.
